I hate Okra.

I really thought I liked all vegetables. A couple months ago I couldn't think of a vegetable I didn't like. Kale? Love it in smoothies. Brussel Sprouts? Yum, of course with butter. Okra? Okay, fine, bread and fry the heck out of them and let me dip it in Ranch dressing and I'll eat them. I suppose.

But after weeks of getting Okra from my CSA, I know, without doubt. I hate okra. Those chewy fuzzy little things. Ick.

My mom is dehyrdating all my okra and we thought I could just puree it into a powder for soups. We'll see.

okra isnt my favorite. but i know a couple of new ways to prepare it that work for us. one is to grill them. slit a few slits along the length of the pods, soak in either soy soace or lime juice. skewer them in 4s and 5s on dual bamboo skewers & grill. pretty good.

another is to slice them thinly into pasta sauce and cook for a while., this works well in homemade sauce that has to cook way down. you cant even tell they are in there.

best okra wishes-

i LOVE okra! I'd be more likly to join a CSA if I knew I'd be hauling in the okra like you are ;)

Besides fried and grilled, I fix it on the stovetop. Cut into bite size chunks and set aside. Fry up 2-3 slices of bacon and set the bacon aside. With the bacon grease in the pan, add some chopped up onion and toss that and the okra in. Fry until onion is clear and okra is slightly browned. Chop up tomatoes and toss those in, put on the lid and cook for 10? min then add some corn and again put the lid on a cook for 10? min. Season with whatever sounds good. I use Lawrys Season salt and pepper. MMM good!
